From clinical care to population health.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Uzzal led a team of nurses, medical assistants, and community health workers at Alikadam Upazilla Health Complex — a project run by Gram Unnayon Sangathon (GRAUS) in partnership with Save the Children. It became the experience that turned his attention from the individual patient to the health of a whole population.

Challenge
A rural health complex needed to respond to COVID-19 with limited medicines, instruments, and IPC training for its doctors and staff.

Supported the health complex with medicines and instruments, and facilitated infection-prevention-and-control and COVID-19 management training for the medical team.

Directed a team of nurses, medical assistants, and community health workers, keeping daily clinic operations running through the pandemic.

Arranged health education programmes for community members and served nearly 15,000 patients before the project concluded.

The scale of what was possible beyond one patient at a time is what draws him toward formal training in public health and epidemiology through BRAC University's MPH programme.

A physician who thinks in populations.
Dr. Uzzal Chandra Tangchangya is a general physician with more than three years of experience working with local and international organisations, including BRAC, Save the Children, and the ICRC. He currently leads clinical care at the Medical Center of BRAC University's Residential Campus in Dhaka.
His path has run through emergency wards, telemedicine consultations for underserved communities, and a humanitarian COVID-19 response in the Chittagong Hill Tracts — experience that has raised questions he can't answer from clinical medicine alone, and that continue to drive him toward formal training in public health and epidemiology through BRAC University's MPH programme.
